Jessica Simpson may have bought her own $100,000 engagement ring
The big talk about Jessica Simpson's engagement to Eric Johnson isn't the lack of a prenup, or how Nick Lachey just got engaged too (well, it is those things, but bear with us); it's about her giant ring, which supposedly costs $100,000. How could a mediocre former NFL player afford that? Word is, he couldn't. But she could.
PopEater's Rob Shuter says the Neil Lane ring, stuffed with a 4-carat ruby and two diamonds, was likely her own purchase: "No way could Eric, who doesn't have a job at the moment, afford to purchase such an expensive ring," a friend says. "Yes, he made a little bit of money in the NFL and is from a wealthy family, but unless his parents helped him out, Jessica must have paid for it herself."
Well, that settles it, then. If one person says that she had to pay for it, it must be true.
"What's the big deal? Jessica has more money than she can ever spend," a different friend told Shuter. "If she wants to treat her future husband, friends or even herself to an expensive piece of jewelry, it's her business and no one else." Finally, a voice of reason. After The Dukes of Hazzard, she could buy gold breakfast cereal, chew it, then spit it out if she wanted, and it wouldn't make a dent. At least someone's helping the economy grow.
