Joe Francis arrested after being late to court
In case you hadn't heard, Girls Gone Wild sleaze merchant Joe Francis was arrested in an L.A. court after showing up late for a court hearing on tax evasion charges, the AP says. Maybe someone dropped him a roofie and he couldn't get up in time.
But no, Joe says he had the flu, which is what he told the judge after missing his date by five hours on Monday. His attorney, Melissa Weinberger, says U.S. marshals cuffed him and dragged him away. He has since been released and put on house arrest until his next hearing on Feb. 11, TMZ says.
Francis is accused of claiming more than $20 million in bogus business expenses on his corporate tax returns, including $3.8 million for a home in Mexico and $10.4 million in phony consulting services. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of federal tax evasion. Ironically, the hearing was to consider a request from his tax attorneys to recuse themselves. Now he's got to find all-new lawyers, we'd think.
