Johnny Depp on '48 Hours Mystery' to defend West Memphis Three

Tbd-johnnydepp022410 If you don't care what Hollywood types think about things, skip this item now. The rest of you should cower before the might of Johnny Depp, who will be on CBS' 48 Hours Mystery on Sunday arguing for the retrial of the West Memphis Three, the New York Post reports. Also, Alice in Wonderland is coming out; What a strange way to promote that.

Depp will appear on the show, which purports to show new DNA and forensic evidence in the case, to argue Jason Baldwin, Jessie Misskelley and Damien Echols were cheated when they were sentenced 16 years ago in the beating deaths of three 8-year-olds in 1994 in a supposed satanic ritual.

"I firmly believe Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley are totally innocent. It was a need for swift justice to placate the community," Depp says on the show. "Damien Echols is on death row to be killed by lethal injection." Baldwin and Misskelley are serving life terms.
