Johnny Depp talks Angelina Jolie, Jack Sparrow
Johnny Depp is always a Juice* favorite, mostly because the guy doesn't do anything bad to anyone and is, by all accounts, one of the nicest and most generous souls on Earth. That makes his new interview with Vanity Fair kinda boring, but you don't see us not writing about it.
How nice a guy is he? He was ultra-careful not to start up any rumors about he and The Tourist costar Angelina Jolie, taking pains to avoid being seen together. Thanks to the media, he spent all his time "having to hide, sometimes not even being able to talk to each other in public because someone will take a photograph and it will be misconstrued and turned into some other s---."
But one good piece of dirt is how the folks at Disney hated him for playing Pirates of the Caribbean anti-hero Capt. Jack Sparrow like Keith Richards: "They couldn’t stand him. They just couldn’t stand him," Depp says of his take on Sparrow. "I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying, 'He's ruining the movie.' Upper-echelon Disney-ites, going, What’s wrong with him? Is he, you know, like some kind of weird simpleton? Is he drunk? By the way, is he gay?' … And so I actually told this woman who was the Disney-ite … 'But didn’t you know that all my characters are gay?' Which really made her nervous."
