Like JT and Beyonce have had any hits lately
If you’re looking forward to the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 9 in Las Vegas, get ready to see Beyonce and Justin Timberlake win a few times. The odds are on the pair, who earned seven nods apiece when the nominees were announced Tuesday in New York, the AP reports.
Beyonce’s Irreplaceable was nominated for video of the year, as was Timberlake’s What Goes Around ... Comes Around, which co-starred Scarlett Johansson (Sexy Back was tapped for “most earth shattering collaboration” with Timbaland, who is acting as this year's awards maestro).
Also competing in the category are Amy Winehouse’s Rehab, Kanye West’s Stronger, Rihanna’s Umbrella (featuring Jay-Z) and Justice’s D.A.N.C.E.
Hitting it almost as big were West and Rihanna, who both got 5 nominations. Kanye is up for male artist of the year with Timberlake, Akon, T.I. and Robin Thicke.
Rihanna’s hit is also up for “monster single of the year,” and she is competing with Beyonce for female artist of the year with Fergie, Winehouse and Nelly Furtado.
Winehouse, who earned three total noms, is going to throw down with Lily Allen, Carrie Underwood, Gym Class Heroes and Peter Bjorn & John for best new artist, while Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, Linkin Park, Maroon 5 and the White Stripes are competing for best group. And still no mention of Tay Zonday’s Chocolate Rain.
