Julia Roberts made $500,000 a minute for 'Valentine's Day'
While you and your significant other were debating whether you should see The WolfMan or Valentine's Day over the weekend, Julia Roberts was laughing all the way to the bank for making $500,000 a minute to star in the latter. We made $8 an hour over the weekend at our third job scrubbing toilets at the Forum. And we have seniority!
New York says New Line Cinema gave Roberts $3 million in advance against 3 percent of the gross. That's great and all, except Julia's part in the movie, which has just about every actor currently working in L.A., lasts a whole six minutes. According to the magazine, that's $500,000 a minute, which is $8,333 per second, and about $11,952 per spoken word of dialogue.
Apparently Julia did her role as a favor to director Garry Marshall, who also directed Runaway Bride and Pretty Woman. New York says after Roberts agreed, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift, Eric Dane and Patrick Dempsey all jumped aboard. Of course, they only got a pro-rated paycheck, since everyone only shot for three days or so. Still, scrubbing toilets only makes $8 an hour!
