Julia Roberts will play the evil queen in 'Snow White'

We've already told you about Snow White and the Huntsman, a retelling of the fairy tale starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron and possibly Kristen Stewart. But did you know there's a competing version being made? And guess what? Julia Roberts will be playing the evil queen. It's an evil-queen-off! says Roberts will star in Relativity Media's Snow White, a "new ... and modernized spin on the original classic fairy tale" as written by Melisa Wallack, best known for 2007 indie effort Bill. We'd make fun of that pedigree, but it's just as good as Quentin Tarantino's resume when he wrote Pulp Fiction.

Tarsem Singh is the director of Julia's version, however, so that one is already our favorite for the visual potential alone. It's set to hit theaters June 29, 2012, in a summer replay of dueling identical movies. You know, like when Armageddon and Deep Impact came out in 1998, or K-9 and Turner & Hooch were released in 1989. Bad ideas, all of them. It's good to see Hollywood traditions continuing, though.
