Julianne Hough says she was abused as a child
Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough reveals in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan she was abused at a very young age while at a school for dance in London. So anyone with kids getting ready to study abroad, brace yourselves now.
"I was abused, mentally, physically, everything," she tells the magazine, refusing to name the abuser at the Italia Conti Academy of Arts or any other details. "I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer. I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy façade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love."
She added the abuse got worse "when I started hitting puberty, when I started becoming a woman and stopped being a little girl." The magazine notes fellow DWTS pro Mark Ballas also was in the same school at the time, as well as her brother Derek Hough, who was also there from Utah.
Hough said the plot of her upcoming movie Safe Haven, which is about a woman escaping an abusive relationship, really opened the floodgates. But she still won't name names.
"I'm a very forgiving person, and I don't want to hurt anybody," she says. "What's past is past."
