Kanye West charged with battery, theft, vandalism
Looks like Kanye West can’t just walk away after he and his manager smashed a photographer’s camera at LAX last Sept. 11. After county prosecutors balked, L.A. city prosecutors have charged West with misdemeanor battery, grand theft and vandalism, the AP reports. Hold onto your seats, because Kanye could get 2 1/2 years in the clink if convicted.
West’s road manager, Dan Crawley, also faces six misdemeanor charges: two counts apiece of battery, vandalism and grand theft. He could get up to five years in jail, too, since he was shown on a TMZ video throwing the camera to the ground before accosting the photographer. Kanye is only shown destroying the camera’s flash.
The charges were filed by the office of outgoing City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, whose office last year also pursued a misdemeanor against Britney Spears over her driver’s license, the AP says. A jury deadlocked in favor of acquitting Spears and the case was dropped, but with a plain-as-day video showing the incident, we suspect the outcome may be different this time.
