Kanye West rages over 'banned' cover for 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'
Kanye West is all in a tizzy because he says that Def Jam has banned the cover art for his upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, just because it's a painting of a naked monster woman having sex with a troll-faced man. Well, maybe banned isn't the right word, but he's hopping mad nonetheless.
"Banned in the USA!!! They don't want me chilling on the couch with my phoenix!" he tweeted via @kanyewest on Sunday afternoon. "In the 70s album covers had actual nudity... It's so funny that people forget that... Everything has been so commercialized now."
Too bad a source told the L.A. Times (which refused to run the image, btw) that "West was strongly urged to use alternate art, the source conceded, but added that West 'was told if he wanted to do it, the label would stand behind him.'" That doesn't sound like being banned to us, but you don't see West not complaining.
"In all honesty ... I really don't be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers," West raged on. "So Nirvana can have a naked human being on they cover but I can't have a PAINTING of a monster with no arms and a polka dot tail and wings" Has anyone thought to tell him the whole thing just looks kinda dumb?
