Kara DioGuardi is new judge on 'American Idol'
In a move that is no doubt sending Paula Abdul to the shrink with anxiety attacks and an inferiority complex, Fox has announced it is adding a fourth judge to American Idol. Songwriter Kara DioGuardi will join the panel this fall for the eighth season of the waning talent show, the AP reports.
"We are turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges' table," creator and executive producer Simon Fuller said. "She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show."
DioGuardi's songs have been recorded by Kelly Clarkson (strangely enough), Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Pink, among others.
Producers said this wasn't a new idea, since Idol was supposedly intended to have a fourth judge. Simon Cowell must have had a big enough ego to qualify as two people.
