Katie Couric may be making $20 million deal with ABC
A few have questioned why Katie Couric would leave her anchor job for CBS (a very few, judging by her ratings), but TMZ has the reasons -- about 20 million reasons, actually. The site says she's close to making a $20 million deal with ABC News, although the cost may be General Hospital.
ABC dangled quite an offer in front of Katie, if TMZ's sources are to be believed: An hourlong, 5-day-a-week syndicated talk show starting in September 2012, specials for ABC News, shots at filling in for various newsies and some pieces for 20/20. Matt Lauer would not be involved, and the haul for the talk show alone would be $20 million.
The hitch is that ABC would need an hour in the daytime to air the show, which would likely run at 3 p.m. That means General Hospital may get teh axe like so many other long-running soap operas. But hey, why get all upset now? Nothing official yet. Or maybe Couric announced it on CBS Evening News and no one heard it.
