Katie Holmes in Guillermo Del Toro-backed remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

What happens when you give a megatalented director like Guillermo Del Toro too much leeway in the kinds of projects in which he gets involved? Stuff like remakes of 1973 TV movies, that's what.

The Hollywood Reporter says Del Toro was working on a remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, which is an old ABC flick about a girl who moves in with her dad and his girlfriend, who happen to have demons as roommates. But hey, he's busy, so he's given it to his protege, Troy Nixey, the visionary mind behind ... some 2007 movie called Latchkey's Lament.

There's some star power involved, though: Katie Holmes is already signed on in a vain attempt to reclaim popcorn status after ditching the Batman series, and Guy Pearce is in negotiations. And really, an overhauled TV movie sounds about right for those two, right?

[There's a silly review of the original by some dude on the Internet above.]
