Katy Perry approached for role in Paul Potts biopic
It was only a matter of time before Katy Perry ended up in some kind of movie, so what better choice than as the wife of a guy who got famous on reality show? There's some kind of statement on the all-consuming nature of modern entertainment there, we think.
Harvey Weinsten apparently is considering Perry to play the wife of Paul Potts, the pudgy English cellphone salesman who shot to fame after singing Nessun Dorma from Turandot on Britain's Got Talent in 2007, the New York Post says. Potts met Julie-Ann Cooper on the internet and married her in 2002 after dating for a year.
But don't take the paper's word for it; Weinstein was seen chatting up Katy at his pre-Oscar party last week, and he admitted the move to the Post.
"I was talking to Katy about a new project, a possible dramatic role in the Paul Potts movie, which will be shooting in England soon," Weinstein said. "We'd really like someone like Katy or Adele to play the role of Potts' wife, and Katy seemed genuinely interested."
Her exact words were, "I love a challenge." We can see that, otherwise she wouldn't have married Russell Brand.
