Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp in the running for 'Robocop' remake
But wait, the horrible remake news doesn't stop there: Word is that Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp all are in the running to star as the titular hero of Detroit in a remake of Robocop. If they're going for an emotionless, soulless automaton, we'd think Keanu has a lock on this.
BusinessInsider.com says Jose Padilha (of Bus 174 fame) has been picked by MGM to helm the return of Officer Alex Murphy, played so ably by Peter Weller in 1987, precisely because Weller already looks and acts like a machine. Brazilian Padilha already has experience making documentaries, so finding an actor who can play a police officer raised from the dead as a cybernetic supercop should be fun -- for him.
Expect to see this remake in theaters around 2013, but don't expect to see Cruise or Depp stooping to something so cheesy and unnecessary. That means you really are the man now, Keanu.
