Keira's all growns up -- again
Keira Knightley has been filling cineplexes as hard-nosed (and inexplicably smudge-free) Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but London’s Daily Mail says she’s taking on a more adult role in the screen adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel Atonement.
Set during WWII, Knightley plays a recent college grad who falls for a would-be doctor played by James McAvoy. The pair get down and dirty in a scene that wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the Disney studios.
“She’s a grown-up and she does grown-up things,” Knightley says of the part. “I was 17 when I started playing Elizabeth in the Pirate films and they were fun, but very much meant for families. Now I’ve grown up and so have the roles.”
Well, let’s not forget the abundant nudity when she played a bloodthirsty bounty hunter in 2005’s Domino, of course.
