Kids behind rash of Hollywood burglaries
It’s a story that sounds straight out of Hollywood: A crew of party-happy teenagers plot to burglarize the homes of movie and TV stars, making off with thousands of dollars of designer clothes, jewelry and more. Well, get this: The story did come straight out of Hollywood.
We didn't get to this late last week, but police arrested four teens and one 27-year-old in connection with a yearlong L.A. crime spree targeting Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Audrina Patridge and even she-who-not-be-named, Paris Hilton. Acccording to People, the kids — alleged ringleader Rachel Lee, 19; Diana Tamayo, 19; Courtney Ames, 18; Alexis Nieres, 18; and Roy Lopez Jr., 27 — used star maps and the Internet to plot their robberies, and planned to break into the celebrities’ homes when they were away on shoots and appearances. Another teen, Nicholas Prugo, 18, was arrested last month and charged in the Lohan and Patridge burglaries. The surreal twists of the case are almost too numerous to mention, but here are some favorites. Tamayo was the student body president at a high school for at-risk students. After posting bail, Nieres, an aspiring model, was picked up from jail by her sister, Playboy model Tess Taylor; the siblings are the subject of an upcoming E! reality show. And TMZ has turned up photos of the gang flashing drugs, cash and bling.
People said it’s not clear whether the group is responsible for other recent Hollywood burglaries, including those of Rachel Bilson, Hayden Panettiere and Kourtney Kardashian. Each of the suspects were booked in Los Angeles and held on $50,000 bail, except for Lee, who was arrested in Las Vegas and held on $3,000 bail.
But money should be the least of this group’s problems. They’ve got a blockbuster screenplay ready to go whenever they want it.
