If you've been wondering why those ambulances have been whizzing by and why people have been rioting in the streets, it's because Kim Kardashian filed for divorce Monday, after being married to NBA player Kris Humphries a mere 72 days. It's true what they say -- sham marriages arranged by Ryan Seacrest strictly to draw ratings from mouth-breathing E! viewers simply don't last.

"I've spoken to her briefly and she says she's sad and got caught up in all that was going on," Seacreast, who produces her shows Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Kourtney and Kim Take New York, said on his KIIS-FM radio program Monday morning, according to People. Halloween is listed as the date of separation in papers filed at L.A. Superior Court. The reason is the ever-popular irreconcilable differences.

The magazine also says the couple has a prenuptial agreement and she doesn't want to pay spousal support to Humphries. TMZ adds she wants an annulment, to pretend this marriage -- her second -- didn't even exist. Tell that to all those vendors who gave away millions free services and products to be on the wedding special.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," she told her E! masters. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."
