Kirstie Alley to star in sitcom pilot, 'The Manzanis'
Frequent Clearwater visitor Kirstie Alley is really capitalizing on her Dancing With the Stars run, signing a deal with ABC to shoot a pilot for a new sitcom. The show will probably ultimately lose its time slot to Hines Ward at the last minute.
Deadline.com says the network has agreed to try out The Manzanis, which the site describes as "a new take on Roseanne, and stars Alley as a very opinionated wife/mother who, along with her family, the Manzanis, moves to repressed country-club town." That sounds more like a cross between The Sopranos and The Beverly Hillbillies.
This is a show that's been in development for two years, but didn't get off the ground until it had a big star. It took a 60-year-old actress dropping six dress sizes onscreen to fit the bill. She should just host a fitness series called The Yo-Yo Show and be done with it.
