L.A. Reid leaves Island Def Jam for Simon Cowell's 'X Factor'
Simon Cowell has signed the first judge for his latest American Empire, the import of The X Factor, and it's none other than Island Def Jam Records chairman L.A. Reid. That's way more impressive than Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
Reid has resigned for the record company to be on the show, the Huffington Post says. He sent out a farewell note including a Colin Powell quote: "Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand."
Now Reid, who signed big-deal acts like Rihanna, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and Bon Jovi (and even American Idol judge J.Lo), signed up for Sony Music, which will be giving a contract to The X Factor winner. His contract with Universal Music Group, Def Jam's parent company, was going to expire in December, anyway, so this may be the death knell for Idol. All they need is a couple more judges to join him. We suggest Hulk Hogan and that Numa Numa kid.
