Lady Gaga snags record 13 nominations for MTV Video Music Awards
Our obligatory Lady Gaga item today actually has some entertainment news value, since she just scored 13 nominations for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, a record for the event. Why, has she turned out to be popular or something?
Gaga's nods include two for both video of the year and best choreography for that latex monster mash Bad Romance and her duet with Beyonce in Telephone, best pop video, best dance music video and best female video, the New York Daily News reports. We don't think there's an award for most reminiscent of Madonna in her prime.
"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history," she said in a statement. "Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13."
Following right behind her with 8 nominations was the resurgent Eminem, who is up against Gaga for video of the year, plus best male video and best hip-hop video. Not that he's thrilled about it.
"Apparently, MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?!" Eminem said. "I mean, I'll be there, but don't expect me to be nice about it."
Other hopefuls for best female video are Katy Perry for California Gurls, Ke$ha for Tik-Tok and Taylor Swift for Fifteen. Best new artist nominees that aren't Justin Bieber are Nicki Minaj, Jason Derulo, Ke$ha and Broken Bells. You can catch all the drama on Sept. 12 at 9 p.m.
