Larry King oil leak telethon raises $1.81 million

The numbers are in from Monday night's CNN celebrity telethon for Gulf Coast relief, courtesy of Larry King. It seems people dug into their pockets for $1.81 million to help clean up the oil leak. That's a lot of dishwashing detergent.

"Everyone's really pissed off," Jenny McCarthy said in a typical show of her astounding intellect. She was monitoring messages in the show's Tweet Suite, where cranks wrote in during the two hour show.

"People are crying on the phone and giving money," singer Aaron Neville said while answering phones. Ted Danson chimed in that it was important for him to "hear people's emotions, their fear and sadness" while donating.

We can't help but think it would have been more, except that most Americans realize it's BP's responsibility and BP is the the one who should have to pay to clean it up, not folks struggling to feed their own kids seven days a week.
