Lauren Conrad destroys books in craft video, angers viewers
MTV reality show star Lauren Conrad angered book lovers after she filmed an episode of her web-only show Crafty Creations in which she cuts up books to create ... storage boxes. But if you cut up all the books, what goes inside the boxes?
Conrad cut the spines off nine books that appear to be from the Lemony Snicket series for a video that appeared on Laurenconrad.com and ulookhaute.com, a fashion and beauty site, the Hollywood Reporter says. She said the project was "a great way to display vintage books or slightly used books and also create a unique storage space." We really want to know what she was thinking -- or rather, what her interns were thinking because you know she doesn't actually make any of those "crafts."
Book blogs like GalleyCat picked up the video, causing it to go viral. Conrad then removed it from her site after the comments started to get nasty. "Holy s--- I feel like I'm watching some sort of terrible snuff film," one viewer on YouTube wrote.
We don't recall Conrad ever reading an actual book the whole time she was on Laguna Beach or The Hills, but that's probably because she was too busy getting famous for being a rich spoiled brat on two reality shows about rich spoiled brats. Why she couldn't just make boxes out of old issues Cosmopolitan? Instead of making storage boxes out of treasured literature, she could make them out of topless guys and sex tips. That seems a tad more fitting.
