Lawsuit targets Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl Margarita
First Whole Foods pulled Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl Margarita from shelves, claiming it wasn't all-natural, as claimed, but now the real housewife has to contend with a class-action lawsuit against the company that owns the drink. Hopefully she can tear herself away from writing her latest book to deal with that.
The suit, filed by one Reneta Bonar in California, claims Beam Global Spirits engaged in "deceptive statements" and can't be advertised as "all natural because it contains the preservative sodium benzoate, TMZ reports. What? You didn't have a sodium benzoate tree in your backyard growing up? Bonar wants Beam to run an ad campaign explaining itself and pay unspecified damages. Not that they're too worried about it.
"In today's litigious society, nothing is surprising. The litigation filed in relation to the labeling of Skinnygirl Margarita is frivolous," the company said in a statement. "We will defend our case vigorously, and we are fully confident we will prevail." How confident; They must realize they have the power of the Bravo network in their corner.
