Leona Lewis punched in the face at book signing

Tbd-leonalewis101509 Singer Leona Lewis had to cut an appearance short Wednesday after a man punched her in the face during a London book signing, the U.K.'s Sun reports.

Lewis was rushed to the hospital after being attacked by a man in his late 20s or early 30s, the paper says. He waited in line at the signing, which was 30 minutes into a three-hour engagement, and struck Lewis as she signed his copy of her book, Dreams. About 200 people watched as Leona fell back while five bouncers pounced on the man and police arrived.

"Leona was utterly shocked and appalled as it came out of nowhere," a source told the Sun. "The man queued up patiently, then as soon as she signed his book he smashed her in the face. He didn't say anything to her and she is at a loss as to why anyone would do such an evil thing."

Lewis is due for another signing in a few weeks, and is expected to be back in action by then.
