Lindsay Lohan's life may have been ruined by misdiagnosis, addiction to Adderall
Finger-pointing over what's wrong with Lindsay Lohan has started, with TMZ saying she may have been misdiagnosed, starting a dependence on Adderall. Hey, they have to fill up their site with something while she's in rehab, don't they?
After UCLA doctors said they thought LiLo was misdiagnosed with ADHD and prescribed the drug, Dr. Joe Haraszti told TMZ that people who take Adderall when they don't need it can experience symptoms similar to cocaine or meth. Yeah, we saw the after-school special already.
Haraszti says patients end up manic, "driving around until all hours of the morning ... smoking heavily ... tweeting ... and texting all night long. They can become very impulsive." He adds they "might then complain of insomnia and then take Ambien or other sleep aids to help fall asleep ... it's a vicious cycle."
Another addiction expert, Dr. Marc Kern, notes that alcohol addiction is common among these folks, too: "The Adderall counteracts the sedative side effects of alcohol use … making these people often drink more than someone who does not take the drug."
So what's more likely? A child actress with crazy, addict parents and access to anything she wants grows up to be a spoiled addict, or she got hooked on baby speed when some doctor mistakenly thought she was hyper? You make the call!
