Lucy Lawless pleads guilty
Lucy Lawless has admitted to her lawlessness. The actress pleaded guilty Thursday to trespassing after a February incident in which she and seven other Greenpeace New Zealand activists tried to stop an oil-drilling ship by boarding it.
People reports Lawless will avoid a more serious charge of burglary. “I did what I had to do,” she said, according to the New Zealand Herald. “We want to tell (deep-sea oil drillers) absolutely under no circumstances is this a good idea. They are robbing our children of their birthright to a clean and healthy planet, and they know it.”
Lawless and her fellow activists perched themselves atop the ship’s drilling tower for 77 hours, which could seem like the blink of an eye, considering she faces three years of prison at her sentencing in September. However, she doesn’t expect any jail time, considering she’s a first-time offender and it was a peaceful protest. Plus, she’s a celebrity — that always helps.
