Lunchtime movie biz news
• Naomi Watts will co-star with Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code prequel Angels and Demons, but the writer’s strike will push back production until February at the earliest, the New York Post reports. That’ll give director Ron Howard plenty of time to think of an even more embarrassing haircut for Hanks.
• In more Star Trek prequel news, Ben Cross — best known for playing Harold Abrahams way back in 1981’s Chariots of Fire — has signed on to play Spock’s father, the Hollywood Reporter says. Trekkie Juice*heads will be glad to read we know the character’s name is Sarek, and that Winona Ryder’s Amanda will, in fact, be human and not Vulcan after all. Now please stop complaining.
• The New York Post says Superman has decided to make Lois Lane an honest woman, with Superman Returns star Brandon Routh set to marry girlfriend Courtney Ford Saturday in Santa Barbara. No doubt the ceremony will be similar to Christopher Reeve’s marriage to Dana Morosini, but overhyped and not as satisfying.
