Madonna sued over 'Material Girl' clothing line
Madonna's new clothing line for teens, Material Girl (so ably reviewed by our pals the Deal Divas), is causing a row on the fashion world. Not because it's new and exciting, but because another company says it's been using that name since 1997.
L.A. Triumph filed a suit in California this week, Reuters reports, saying it has been "continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under their Material Girl brand since at least 1997, and Madonna and her newfound company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand." This from a company we've never heard of, battling a line that's currently being sold in Macy's.
If we were L.A. Triumph, we'd keep our mouths shut; Madonna has so much money, she's likely to sue that she had the rights to the name Material Girl since 1985. It doesn't even matter if she could win, since she could just bankrupt them in legal fees.
