Madonna's adoption of Mercy delayed until Friday
A Malawian judge on Monday delayed a ruling on Madonna's attempt to adopt Mercy James, delaying the proceedings until Friday, probably to extend Madge's trip to the country so she'll spend more money.
The AP says the 50-year-old spent about an hour in court in the capital of Lilongwe. Court official Thomson Ligowe confirmed the application was adjourned until Friday, but declined to give other details about the fate of Mercy, which is a translation of her real name, Chifundo. The girl, whose unmarried 18-year-old mother died soon after she was born, is about 4 years old.
Meanwhile, Madge and adopted 3-year-old son David Banda, plus daughter Lourdes, 12, and other son Rocco, 8, visited the Mphandula child care center, which has been the beneficiary of her charity. Among the attendees: Yohane Banda, David's father.
"I was very happy to see him, Yohane said. "He asked me who I was."
Sounds like Banda could form a support group with Bridget Moynihan.
