Madonna's brother Anthony is homeless, living under a bridge in Michigan
While Madonna's younger brother Christopher Ciccone spilled plenty of beans in his 2008 book Life with My Sister Madonna, the latest news from her siblings is that her older brother Anthony is down on his luck. How down? Try being homeless for a year and a half and living under a bridge in Traverse City, Mich.
"My family turned their back on me, basically, when I was having a hard time," Anthony Ciccone told website MichiganMessenger.com, which features stories by citizen journalists. "You think I haven't answered this kind of question a bazillion times – why my sister is a multibazillionarie, and I'm homeless on the street? Never say never. This could happen to anybody."
Anthony said he ended up homeless after he lost his job at his dad's vineyard, Ciccone Vineyard, in Suttons Bay, Mich. Sounds like he should be more angry at his father. But there's plenty of details on how he got frostbite on his feet last winter from sleeping outside.
"You have no idea how gruesome it is," he said. "You get nerve damage. That's the milder stage. In the severe stage you have tissue damage, that is when you lose parts of your body ... A friend of mine lost all 10 toes. Several have died of hypothermia."Anthony said he makes money working odd jobs and recycling trash, and credits the local church charities for keeping him alive.
Madonna, whose movie W.E. just premiered in London over the weekend, hasn't responded to the story. We will note that she does have a 55-year-old brother named Anthony among her five siblings, in case you were wondering if someone was making this up -- a constant threat in citizen journalist stories. Maybe Madge could send her brother some of those hydrangeas she hates so much.
