Marriage to Tom Cruise over six months before Katie Holmes moved out
Perhaps we shouldn't have had even the mild surprise we did when Katie Holmes achieved escape velocity from husband Tom Cruise, because it sounds like the marriage was over long before she flew the coop. As in, six months before any of us heard anything about her wanting to ditch him. So she had time to plan, then.
In court papers about Suri's custody arrangement dated Aug. 17, a New York judge says the couple's marriage had "broken down irretrievably for a period of at least six months immediately preceding" the June 29 split, the National Enquirer says, according to RadarOnline. The papers also say the couple were joined in a civil ceremony on Nov. 11, 2006, with a prenuptial agreement signed by Katie months earlier. So much for that big wedding in Italy a week later.
Cruise must now pay $400,000 a year for Suri's "medical, dental, insurance, unreimbursed medical and dental, education, college, extracurricular and camp expenses" for the next 12 years. He faces a six-month jail term if he misses a payment, but since he's worth about $250 million, he can probably afford it.
