Matt Lauer's wife threatens divorce if Natalie Morales replaces Ann Curry

Okay, fine, Ann Curry said goodbye to the Today show on Thursday. We've been predicting that for days now. What we didn't expect was a supposed threat by Matt Lauer's wife that she'd leave him if Natalie Morales got Curry's job. Now that's the kind of news The Juice* was waiting for.

The National Enquirer says Annette Roque has threatened a divorce if Morales moves onto the couch, just because there have been rumors Lauer had an affair with Natalie and fathered one of her two children (that would explain why she was passed over when Meredith Vieira left in 2006). Matt denied those rumors, but people always wondered what happened after the Torino Olympics.

"When she heard about Ann getting the boot, the first thing she told Matt was that she didn't want him cozying up any closer to Natalie," a source told the Enquirer. "In fact, Annette drew a line in the sand and said if he pushed show bosses to make Natalie his new co-host, she'd divorce him. Annette knows Matt is the key to the Today franchise and his bosses will put whoever he wants in the co-host chair."

Curry announced her departure on the air, noting she will stay with NBC to cover news stories for Nightly NewsRock CenterDateline, MSNBC and Today. Plus, she'll be getting $10 million as a thanks but no thanks parting gift. Savannah Guthrie is still the favorite to replace her, but as we said earlier this week, Morales is in the running. No thanks, Roque said.

"While Natalie has been on the Today show every day reading the news, moving to the co-hosting chair alongside Matt simply would have been too much for Annette," the source said. "She was determined to keep them from rubbing elbows and getting flirty in front of millions of TV viewers every weekday morning."

We may have to wait as long as a week to find out who's replacing Ann. Good thing they won't be hiring Ann Curry, because we hear she was terrible for ratings. Wait, what?
