Meanwhile, Will Smith, Jada look to adopt baby
Forget the Scientology stuff: We've heard rumbling for some time that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett were looking to adopt a baby, but now the folks at NPR and Newsweek are saying yes, in fact, that's the case.
"They're in the process of adopting at this particular point and the word is that they're adopting a Chinese baby, a baby from china," Newsweek's entertainment correspondent Allison Samuels told NPR's Ferai Chideya. Nice that she specified that Chinese babies are, in fact, from China.
Samuels also discussed the fact that such a move would result in a black couple trying to raise a baby from Asia instead of a baby with the same skin color, and that may cause problems for some.
"It's going to be a challenge for them, and I do think, you know, people will sort of question exactly what they were doing," Samuels said. "And maybe they'll change their mind; maybe they'll go ahead and adopt an African child."
Or, it may just be possible that the unfortunate racial hangups Americans have just might not be genetically programmed into babies' brains, and everyone could just get over it and let them be happy. Either way, audio of the interview is here.
