Mel B's finally suing Eddie Murphy
There's an announcement scheduled for later today that Melanie Brown is prepared to slap Eddie Murphy with a paternity suit over their daughter, Angel. The blogosphere is pulsing with a statement from lawyer Gloria Allred (pictured) that there will be a press conference at 3 p.m. Eastern time. Stay tuned!
5 P.M. UPDATE: You knew this was coming ... Melanie Brown has filed a paternity suit against Eddie Murphy, who has not paid one penny of child support for the couple’s baby, Angel, according to Brown’s lawyer Gloria Allred. People reports the suit is to legally establish that he is the father of the 4-month-old, whom he hasn’t even bothered to see in person.
“Murphy was promising to do the right thing, but to date he has not done the right thing,” Allred said Wednesday. “Mr. Murphy can have all the babies he chooses to have, but his responsibility needs to be to his own children. [Brown] is seeking sole physical and legal custody.” Allred implied that since he bought “a big diamond ring for his new fianceé,” producer Tracey Edmonds, he likely can support his own kid.
Brown made it sound like her motives were more altruistic: “I want (Angel) to know that she has two parents who desire to be responsible for her during her life and who love her so much that they want to be a part of it.” Well, at least Eddie’s bank account can be a part of it.
