Miley Cyrus movie is raking in the big bucks
You already tried to take out a home-equity loan to buy tickets to the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana concert when it made its way to the St. Pete Times Forum with no luck. So now you’re staking your hopes on tickets to see the Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert movie in 3D when it opens for a mere weeklong run starting Feb. 1, Super Bowl be damned.
Well, hope you’ve got them already, because the AP reports the flick was the No. 1 seller on MovieTickets.com its first week on sale, and was 30 percent of total sales on Fandango as of Thursday, right behind Cloverfield, which came out Friday. That’s thousands of tickets per day, folks.
“It’s the best-selling concert movie in Fandango’s seven-year history,” said Rick Butler, chief operating officer of Fandango. The concert film will be showing at seven Tampa Bay theaters, and more than 600 nationwide.
But even though Disney is saying the movie is in response to everyone who wasn’t able to hit an actual concert, we have to wonder why it’s only coming out for a week. Montana mania can’t be maintained with Miley’s ever-shrinking outfits (or by nuzzling Ashley Tisdale at the premiere party) alone, can it?
