Modern Family's Sarah Hyland gets kidney transplant from dad
It's a good thing Sarah Hyland's character on Modern Family didn't get accepted to an out-of-state college, because the 21-year-old will need time to recuperate from a kidney transplant on April 13. Take it easy on the binge drinking though, okay?
The Mila Kunis-lookalike, who plays eldest Dunphy daughter Haley, has suffered from kidney dysplasia (a malformation of the kidneys developed in utero) all her life, so her real-life father, Edward James Hyland, gave his daughter a kidney. He deserves something more than a tie this Father's Day.
"You know that family is always going to be there for you – no matter what. My dad gave me a freakin' kidney!" she told Seventeen, according to People. "But it's also the families that you create outside of your family. And you really find out what kind of people you're friends with."
One of the best is her on- and off-screen boyfriend, Matt Prokop, which explains why he was recently written into the show.
"He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself," Hyland said. "Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have him be there for me."
You know what that means: Haley and Ethan are gonna get married eventually. Prepare yourselves, Phil and Claire.
