'Mr. Whipple' Dick Wilson dead at 91

Tbddickwilson112007_2 A sad day in TV land: Dick Wilson, the actor who implored bored consumers to “Please, don’t squeeze the Charmin,” died Monday at 91.

Mr. Whipple died of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, the AP reports. His daughter Melanie Wilson, who played Jennifer the flight attendant on that old sitcom Perfect Strangers (who knew?), confirmed the report.

Wilson the elder also played small roles on Bewitched, Hogan’s Heroes and The Bob Newhart Show, but his more than 500 appearances as the hypocritical Charmin-squeezer remain his claim to fame, long after the 21-year ad campaign ended in 1985.
