Naomi Campbell furious over 'racist' Cadbury chocolate bar ad

tbd-cadburyad060311.jpgNaomi Campbell is ready to throw some cell phones at candymaker Cadbury, calling an ad campaign for one of its chocolate bars naming her as a diva racist and insulting. Gee, it's a good thing it wasn't for white chocolate.

"I am shocked. It's upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people," the supermodel told the U.K's Independent about the ad for the company's Dairy Milk Bliss bar. "I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful." The ad, which ran in newspapers last week, shows the bar in a bed of diamonds reading, "Move over Naomi, there's a new diva in town."

Civil rights campaign group Operation Black Vote was outspoken about its opposition as well, inviting Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson over to England to protest the company, which is owned by American conglomerate Kraft. A Cadbury spokesperson said the ad was meant as "a light-hearted take on the social pretensions of Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss" and wasn't slated to be repeated.

"Racism in the playground starts with black children being called 'chocolate bar,'" OBV spokesman Simon Woolley said, adding a boycott may be in order. "At best, this is insensitive, and at worst it demonstrates Cadbury's utter disregard for causing offense. Its lack of apology just adds insult to injury. The Eurocentric joke is not funny to black people."

Maybe they do things differently in England -- who are we kidding, of course they do -- but The Juice* thinks Campbell should be honored she's the only working British model anyone in the world can name off the top of their heads. Don't believe us? Go ahead, name another. We'll wait.
