Nick says 'Zoey 101' is staying on the air
Despite Internet rumors to the contrary, Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 (starring Jamie Lynn Spears) hasn’t been canceled, Nickelodeon says. The U.K.’s Sun quoted an insider as saying, “Nickelodeon bosses are still undecided whether to air season four or not. For now it looks like it has been canned.”
But Times media critic Eric Deggans says a Nick representative confirms the show is staying on the air, but the network is being very tight-lipped about it.
Dan Martinsen wrote to Eric answering his phone message asking about the cancellation, responding in a two-line e-mail: "That's not true."
Deggans asked if the cliff-hanger season finale of season three was still airing Friday at 8 p.m. (the fourth season will start in February) and how the U.K. press came up with the rumor, with Martinsen replying: "Yes, and I have no idea."
Sounds like Martinsen is trying hard to avoid being quoted, but the show will go on. And why wouldn’t it? The season is already in the can; Nick can deal with the fallout of marketing a show for ’tweens featuring an unwed 16-year-old mother later.
