Chinese director Wong Kar Wai’s English-language film is the opening picture at Cannes and is in the hunt for the famed Palme d’Or, but features Jones alongside the likes of Jude Law, David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman.
The director approached the singer because of her looks and voice, Reuters reports. “I was not planning on making any kind of acting debut, and he knocked on my door and I hadn’t a clue and just thought ... ‘I’m on tour and I’m not an actress, so whatever’,” Jones said.
