Note to self: Don't work for Oprah
Also from Page Six is a report that Carla Bird, a former employee of Oprah Winfrey (she was assistant to co-executive producer Lisa Erspamer) managed to rack up 800 hours of overtime in 16 weeks. That’s $65,000 to you and me.
“Several weeks ago, it was discovered by accounting and human resources,” a source said. “Most employees would have been walked right out the door. Well, that’s just not the case for good ol’ ‘Birdie.’ ” That means if she worked a five-day week, she was clocking 18.5 hours per day, and 12.5 if she worked seven days!
Lisa Halliday, chief of communications at Harpo Inc., said the claim was all too true. “Many of our employees contribute significant hours of overtime during our production season. This is quite common within the television industry,” she told Page Six. We won’t complain about missing lunch again.
