'Office' producer wants Harvey Keitel to replace Steve Carell

If you ask The Office executive producer Paul Lieberstein who he'd get to replace Steve Carell on the show, he's already got someone in mind: Harvey Keitel. Wow, that makes a freaky kind of sense, but don't think about it too much.

"He's probably the only guy who can do it, and he's doing TV now ... He's a real tough guy, but I saw him in Life on Mars and I saw a lot more comedy in his work, just little slivers of it, little things he would do that made me think he's capable of a lot more than what (he's done)," Lieberstein told E!. He likes the idea so much that he's already started writing the new role. "He's an old salesman who thought he could retire and the stock market went down, and he has to come out of retirement to work for a few years."

There's just one little hitch -- no one has approached Keitel with the idea, although Quentin Tarantino could probably talk him into it.

"I haven't started any talks with his people, but Harvey would do a great job — a very different energy," Lieberstein said. They should use footage from Bad Lieutenant for the casting tape; that would certainly bring a different energy.
