With visions of Don Imus dancing in our heads, we read that Oliver Stone is being accused of a bit of racist banter. Screenwriter Barry Michael Cooper says the director used the dread N word in an exchange waaaay back when Cooper’s New Jack City came out in 1991. “Oliver Stone’s my hero, so I went over to him,” Cooper tells StopSmiling magazine. “[I said,] ‘Man, I love your movie Wall Street. … He said to me, ‘Okay, thank you very much. I bet you like [the Stone-scripted] Scarface, too. All n—s like Scarface.’ SNAP! So Cooper goes to give Stone a piece of his mind when director Stan Lathan and hip-hop entrepreneur Russell Simmons stop him and say “ ‘No you don’t. Let it go. That’s just him, he’s high,’ ” Cooper recalls. And how does the writer feel now? “I don’t think he’s racist,” he told the New York Daily News. “He was tipsy. We were all a little tipsy. I don’t think he meant it maliciously.”
