Oprah's 'Purple' production draws fire
Sources from all over are now reporting that Oprah Winfrey’s broadway production of The Color Purple is being sued for — get this — being racially biased. A federal lawsuit brought by the show’s ex-stylist, Shawnique Hill, says the dresser was fired after she complained there weren’t enough “people of color” working behind the scenes.
The suit says Hill was a victim of wrongful termination, discrimination and breach of contract. Her lawyer, Christopher Serbagi, says Hill “is a true heroine ... for the rights of all people of color who are underrepresented and mistreated behind the curtains on Broadway even when the most powerful black woman in America is the key investor,” the New York Post reports. Oprah barely raised an eyebrow about the whole thing.
