Paul Simon sings at Sandy Hook teacher Vicki Soto's funeral

Sandy Hook Elementary School teacher Vicki Soto, the 27-year old who died shielding her students from a monster firing a rifle at babies, was laid to rest Wednesday in Stratford, Conn. Among the guests was family friend Paul Simon, who added a personal touch to the ceremony.

The musician performed his old Simon & Garfunkel hit The Sound of Silence, E! News reports. The song and eulogies were broadcast to mourners assembled outside, E! says. The song was reportedly one of Soto's favorites.

CBS New York said Soto was one of several victims buried Wednesday. Police say Soto was gunned down trying to shield students from the killer, after she attempted to hide several students in a closet.

"She's probably going to be remembered forever for this," her cousin Robert Natos said. "It's unfortunate, but hopefully her life can stand as a monument to all of us."
