Photographer killed taking photos of Justin Bieber's car
A photographer attempting to take a photo of Justin Bieber in his car on an L.A. freeway was struck and killed by a car Tuesday, CNN reports. And Bieber wasn't even in the car at the time.
The network says a paparazzo, whose name was not released, saw Bieber's white Ferrari on New Year's Day and wanted to make a little cash to start 2013. LAPD spokesman James Stoughton says the California Highway Patrol had pulled the car over on an I-405 on-ramp for speeding, so the shooter parked across the street and walked over to take photos of the driver, who wasn't Bieber.
The photog was told twice to go back to his car and was finally returning to his vehicle after snapping some photos when he was hit by oncoming traffic and killed.
"While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim," Bieber said in a statement, according to CNN. "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."
