Portia de Rossi may be first lesbian on Dancing With the Stars
It's been all over the entertainmentwebs that Israel's version of Dancing With the Stars is featuring a same-sex couple this season, so of course there's a big to-do now about doing that in the American version. Apparently, Ellen DeGeneres' wife Portia de Rossi is the de facto candidate, since she's got nothing better to do. Besides, we all know how hard it is to find gay celebrities!
Ryan Seacrest cornered de Rossi on his KIIS-FM radio show on Thursday, noting that Portia is "on the top of their list," but he figured she'd pass on the idea. Not so, says Portia, who's actually trying to sell her book Unbearable Lightness, about her eating disorders.
"I'm not going to pass! Let me think about it," she said. "I used to be a ballet dancer. It's not completely a pass. You never know!" That sure sounds like an invitation for a phone call from ABC. Meanwhile, judge Carrie Ann Inaba told People she's all for the idea, as if lesbians were somehow incapable of finding the inner strength to dance with a member of the opposite sex.
"I would love it," Inaba said. "I fully support that and I think America is ready for that. Our country is much more accepting of same sex couples and it would be great for the show to reflect that." It has to be more interesting than waiting to see how far Bristol Palin makes it this season.
