Pras, Sean Penn don't support Wyclef Jean's candidacy for president of Haiti
Now that Wyclef Jean is officially running for president of his native Haiti, he's going to need all the support he can get. But you can count his former Fugees bandmate Pras and Sean Penn out of that mix. Wait, who cares what Sean Penn thinks?
After Jean announced his candidacy on Larry King Live Thursday night, Penn opened his big, fat mouth and said Wyclef doesn't have what it takes: "What the Haitian people need now is a leader who is genuinely willing to sacrifice,'' Penn told CNN. "I haven't seen or heard anything of him in these last six months that I've been in Haiti." That's right, he used the opportunity to point out once again he's been kicking around Haiti, doing super-important movie star stuff.
"This is somebody who's going to receive an enormous amount of support from the United States, and I have to say I'm very suspicious of it, simply because he, as an ambassador at large, has been virtually silent. For those of us in Haiti, he has been a non-presence," Penn added. Whatever. This from a guy who lives in a state that elected Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger governor.
Meanwhile, a little closer to home, Pras noted to the New York Daily News he will "endorse Michel Martell as the next president of Haiti because he is the most competent candidate for the job." Is this because Wyclef went on to have a successful solo career while Ghetto Supastar is all you've got? That's a heck of a way to treat your own cousin, even if he does have citizenship and residence issues to worry about in this campaign.
