Prince William engaged to Kate Middleton, give her Princess Diana's ring
We're not ones to usually write about any royal family, but this one caught our eye: It seems Prince William has gotten engaged to Kate Middleton, and the ring he used to propose belonged to none other than his mum, Princess Diana. Wow, Jessica Simpson must be so jealous about that.
"It's my mother's enagagment ring, so of course it's very special to me, and Kate's now very special to me, so it was only right to put the two together," William said Tuesday. "It was the right time and i'm very glad to have done it." The ring, which is a giant sapphire surrounded by diamonds, hasn't been seen in public since Diana divorced Prince Charles in 1996, CNN says.
"Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya," read a Tuesday statement from William's home, Clarence House. "Prince William has informed the queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton's father. Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force."
We have to imagine her dad was pretty okay with that proposal, especially since the two 28-year-olds have been dating since meeting at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland back in 2002. The wedding will be in London in the spring or summer of 2011. It'll be interesting to see if it costs seven figures, given the state of the British economy. How much was Chelsea Clinton's, again?
